I used to not care about recycling. Threw everything in the garbage. And yes, I knew about all the things of global warming, but it didn't really hit me until I fell in love with polar bears. I saw this picture of this mama polar bear and her cub, laying on a small iceberg where the glaciers have melted. After that, something just really hit home. I started recycling, teaching my hubby how to recycle, doing everything that I can do. Some people may not think it's much, but I want to make sure that the footprint I leave on this world, stays forever. A few weeks ago I watched a special about polar bears and how their environment has been affected by global warming. They can't find food, there are few icebergs to hop onto to take them out to catch larger fish, etc. Anyways, you obviously get the point that I love polar bears, and mother nature in general. So I do my part right? I recycle, I now use a Brita water filter instead of buying hundreds of water bottles, I have and use the canvas shopping bags. So why the heck don't other people do it?? lol. I went to our local grocery store today to pick up a few things. As I walk back to my car I see this woman, loading probably 10 bags (a good carts worth of groceries) into her van. And there, there is when a tad bit of fury rolled in. She had her groceries in paper bags, but then had the paper bags in plastic bags! Forget one bullet, she wants to make sure this shit is dead, so she used two! Then I saw that she had asked for probably 15 paper bags, for what who knows. But my question is, why? Why doubling the bags? Is the paper not strong enough? If not, just use plastic, but why not just use plastic. Really? As if she's not going to pull her soccer-mom van up into the garage or right up to the door of her home, so it's not like the bags are going to burst. Not like she's going to walk three miles, up hill, in the middle of winter, with her doubled bags, making sure they don't burst! So really, does it make it more durable if you double up? That just doesn't make sense to me! All I wanted to say was "Hey lady! If you pay $.99 per canvas bag, you won't have to double up!" But of course, I don't say anything. And now those plastic bags are going to sit in the landfill, staying longer on this earth then us, our friends, our family, the polar bears. It's time to stop thinking about our generation and this world, it's time to think about the coming generations and making sure they have a healthy world. So all in all, I have a new fight. I want to make it a law in this state, and every other state that you must use canvas bags when shopping. Give us ten, and if we need more, we'll buy them and then have them be tax writeoffs. And that would be the incentive for all the lazy turds out there who of course need an incentive, need something to benefit themselves. Well guess what a-holes, you are benefiting yourself, with your help we'll see the sun come up another day, we'll see the flowers bloom again next spring, and the animals and our children will hopefully be able to see our world heal, from all the hurting man-kind has done.
That's just my opinion...
